I am Sherlin, currently pursuing a Master’s in Visual Art – Painting at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath- Bangalore School of Visual Art. Through this statement, I aim to share the core themes and intentions behind my work.
My practice draws from the energy of my environment, translating lived experience into powerful visual narratives. Acrylic paint is my primary medium—its vividness and fluidity allow me to capture the emotional intensity of my subjects. I often integrate mixed media to build layered, textured surfaces that evoke a visceral connection, engaging my viewers.
At the heart of my work lies an exploration of womanhood. I confront the male gaze and the societal standards that reduce the female form to an object of scrutiny. Through self-portraiture, I turn the gaze inward, examining my own identity and emotional landscape as a means of personal growth and resistance. My art becomes both a mirror and a window.
My themes centre on human vulnerability, the weight of social expectations, and the strength found in collective solidarity. I am currently expanding my practice exploring new materials and techniques—such as fabric, thread, and stones—to deepen the expressive potential of my work and articulate complex emotional and bodily experiences in a more nuanced way.
